SMOR

SMOR is a cute and cartoonish outline typeface designed by Nina Stössinger that aims to connect top and bottom profiles of letters into bubbly words while omitting their side profiles almost completely. This all-caps display design is great for typesetting ultra bold letters while still feeling weightless. SMOR is inspired by graffiti throwups — their speedy, gestural shaping and the idea of defining words through their outer silhouettes, rather than internal structure, strokes, skeletons (as commonly suggested by the calligraphic legacy in type design)… or even separated letters. Nina came up with first sketches for SMOR in Kel Troughton and James Plattner’s “Graffiti Concepts for Type People” course, and continued to refine and expand the design over the following months. Use for adorable & fluffy things, and set large.
